New Long Covid research affecting women prompts call to Dr Sinclair from broadcasters

After latest research suggested that women may be more vulnerable than men to developing Long Covid symptoms, award-winning radio station LBC sought the expertise of Dr Finlay’s Founder.

When new research emerged suggesting that women might be more vulnerable to developing Long Covid symptoms than men, broadcasters called on Dr Ben Sinclair, Dr Finlay’s Founder, to explain.

As one of the UK’s leading Long Covid experts, and also a GP who not only treats Long Covid sufferers but has also contracted both Covid and Long Covid himself, Dr Sinclair was approached by the team of producers and presenters at London-based radio station LBC.

Breakfast show journalist and interviewer Faye Barker, a well-known presenter who’s made appearances on programmes such as the ITV Morning News, ITV News Channel, ITV News London, Sky News and 5 News, hosted the interview.

Faye asked Dr Sinclair about his own recovery from Covid, from which he became infected in December 2020. Then the discussion turned to Dr Finlay’s dedicated online Long Covid clinic, which is thought to be the UK’s first.

Dr Sinclair told listeners to the early morning show that his own symptoms had included “crushing fatigue and brain fog”. Some sufferers might also be less emotionally resilient and open to stress due to the infection, he said.

During the wide-ranging and in-depth interview, Dr Sinclair also emphasised that one in 10 people who get infected with Covid now go on to develop some Long Covid symptoms, so it seems that Long Covid, which is now affecting more than 2 million people in the UK, is here to stay in the longer term.

Asked if he was concerned that the public could face more damaging variants in future, while Dr Sinclair was keen to offer reassuring advice to listeners, he remained realistic, adding, “The future is uncertain.”
