Menopause campaigner Davina McCall and Long Covid treatments aired as Dr Ben made his debut on Solihull Radio

The station’s lead presenter Jas Rohel hosted a fascinating, wide-ranging conversation with Dr Ben Sinclair.

During an in-depth interview lasting nearly an hour, topics covered included the menopause, Covid, Long Covid and a host of other medical conditions impacted by the pandemic.

Speaking on Jas’s Wednesday morning ‘Talk Education’ Show, Dr Sinclair spoke about the need for greater education and understanding of the importance of maintaining physical and mental health and wellbeing.

The show aired to its 140,000 listeners on the day when new figures from the Office of National Statistics revealed that 2.5 million people in Britain are now “too sick to work”.

Press reports stated that 2.5 million people are not working because of long-term illness. The rise has been blamed on mental health issues in young people, back and neck pain as staff work from home, and Long Covid.

Three years after the start of the pandemic, this worrying trend is also affecting the workforce and UK economy, media reports suggested.

As well as her commitments to her broadcasting work, Jas Rohel is CEO of The Education Awards, the first of its kind in the Midlands region. The event celebrates and rewards the most outstanding contributors to the education Industry. Jas is also a Board member of Solihull Chamber of Commerce and is an influential business networker.

After chatting with Dr Ben about how he trained and worked in Yorkshire for 18 years before moving to the West Midlands and launching Dr Finlay’s Private Practice in Birmingham and Solihull, the interview also touched on his own Covid and Long Covid experiences.

It transpired that both Solihull Radio host Jas and Dr Ben had each contracted Covid three times.

Dr Ben spoke of how he had needed to transform his healthcare service during lockdown, to begin home visits. Now he has built up a strong team of GPs, psychologists and nutritionists, including GP Dr Hiren Chauhan from Solihull.

TV presenter Davina McCall who co-authored ‘Menopausing’, a non-fiction guide sharing real-life stories, science and advice about perimenopause and menopause, had that day just won Book of the Year at the British Book Awards and Dr Ben also spoke about Dr Finlay’s menopause support for patients.

Radio host Jas revealed that she regularly uses a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber. And Dr Ben also mentioned the benefits of using a cold-water immersion tank. “Photobiomodulation”, also known as ‘PBM Therapy’, a form of treatment for injuries involving red infra-red light to heal wounds, calm inflammations and aid soft-tissue healing also got a mention.

It was just one of many fascinating topics in the conversation which also paid tribute to those supporting Mental Health Awareness Week.
