As we open new surgery in Leeds, Yorkshire Evening Post runs a special feature on our team in their popular ‘Family & Health’ section
Before he undertook his GP training in Yorkshire, Dr Finlay’s Private Practice Founder Ben Sinclair studied Medicine and Surgery at the University of Leeds.
So when the time arrived for the doctor and his award-winning team to launch a new Yorkshire home-visiting healthcare service, for him it felt like “coming home”.
“I’ve spent more time in my life in Yorkshire than anywhere else, so launching our new home-visiting, private GP service from Leeds near my university is like coming home for me,” he said.
When the local paper, the Yorkshire Evening Post, took a keen interest in the news, they too caught on to Dr Sinclair’s local links and their headline read: “The doctor will see you now – at home”. The secondary headlines on the full-page feature that ran in the paper’s popular ‘Family & Health’ section, gave the fuller story, declaring: “New private healthcare service described as a one-stop shop launches in Leeds by doctor who studied in city”.
They also added their favourite quote from Dr Sinclair as well, with him declaring: “It feels a bit like coming home”.
Although the practice’s new surgery is based in Leeds, Dr Sinclair arranged a photocall for himself and his team in York, commissioning one of the region’s leading photographers, Tom Jackson.
It was blowing a gale and umbrellas were hoisted as horizontal rain swept down on York Minster when the Dr Finlay’s Yorkshire team posed for pictures. Their smiles were less a comment on the weather and more a sign that they were pleased to be supporting the local community.
Our GPs and specialists in Yorkshire include Dr Samantha Rosenberg, who trained as a GP in York and qualified at the University of Leeds in 2004. As well as her experience in general practice, she also specialises in substance misuse.
Then there’s Dr Aaron Brown, who developed an early interest in medicine as a sixth-former in Leeds. He initially trained as a surgeon, then moved over to community practice as a GP in York. He maintains an interest in urology and health conditions related to the ear, nose and throat.
Dr Maria Wrest was born and raised in Worsbrough, Barnsley. Since qualifying as a GP, she has worked locally at Darfield and Brierley. She was the regional lead GP for all 9 prisons across Yorkshire. Dr Wrest has a particular interest in women’s health, Menopause, mental health and dermatology.
Working alongside the three GPs are also nutritionist Sally Duffin, who has worked for over 20 years in the natural health industry and over a decade as a nutritionist & nutritional therapist; and Registered Nutritional Therapist Natasha Rosenberg, who specialises in gut health and the impact of nutrition in connection with female hormones.
The paper also ran an article online under the headline: ‘New home-visiting private healthcare service launched in Leeds by doctor who is an expert in Long Covid… A brand new home-visiting private healthcare service has been launched in Leeds.’
And Dr Finlay’s arrival was also promoted on the YEP’s Facebook platform, which has 235,000 followers, and on its Twitter feed(240,000 followers).
